Paul J. Tsahakis, M.D.

Dr. Tsahakis is one of the few dual fellowship-trained spine surgeons in the world, having completed advanced fellowship training at Harvard in both spine surgery and adult reconstructive surgery. He also completed an additional fellowship in adult spine and reconstructive surgery at the University of Auckland, Middlemore Hospital, New Zealand.

Dr. Tsahakis performs more than 350 spine surgeries annually, and has had more than 6,000 successful procedures to his credit in over the past 16 years. Over the last several years, he has concentrated on developing and refining minimally invasive techniques of spine surgery, particularly in the area of the cervical and lumbar spine.

Dr. Tsahakis has authored many scientific articles and book chapters. He is committed to clinical research in the area of the spine, and frequently presents his results at national and international spine meetings. He is one of the most experienced cervical microendoscopic surgeons in the world. He has presented his successful results with outpatient microendoscopic surgery of the cervical spine at numerous, prestigious spine meetings around the world including the Cervical Spine Research Society and the International Meeting of Advanced Spine Techniques.

Dr. Tsahakis is board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is an honor graduate of both Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his internship and residency programs at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Dr. Tsahakis has been voted one of the Top Doctors in America several times as featured in the Guide to Top Doctors.

His practice includes many physicians and patients from both the U.S. and Europe.

He enjoys spending time with his family and is active in his church. He resides in Charlotte with his wife and three sons.

Mark Hartman, M.D.

One of the founding physicians at Total Spine Specialists, Dr. Hartman’s practice consists of microscopic, microendoscopic, minimally invasive, tumor, trauma and reconstructive spine surgery.

Dr. Hartman practiced medicine as a spine surgeon in Charlotte for more than 10 years before co-founding Total Spine Specialists. He is specially trained in minimally invasive techniques including microendoscopic disc surgery.

Dr. Hartman is board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a member of numerous prestigious medical associations including the Cervical Spine Research Society and North American Spine Society.

A graduate of Davidson College, Dr. Hartman received his medical degree from Wake Forest University. He completed his internship and residency programs in orthopaedic medicine at Carolinas Medical Center, and completed a spine fellowship at the University of South Florida.

He enjoys spending time with his family and is active in coaching children’s sports. He resides with his wife and two sons in the Lake Norman area.

Robert B. Giedraitis, M.D.

Dr. Giedraitis is a spine specialist who has extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of neck and back disorders. Most patients are able to remain under his care and return to their prior level of function without the need for surgical treatment. He has a strong commitment to helping his patients explore all of their non-surgical care options prior to considering potential surgical procedures.

Dr. Giedraitis is a graduate of Catholic University with a degree in biomedical engineering and Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Charlotte Institute Rehabilitation at Carolinas Medical Center.

He is a board certified member in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Giedraitis sees patients at our Central and South Charlotte offices.

Frank E. Lorch, M.D.

A founding member of Total Spine Specialists in 2003, Dr. Lorch specializes in the use of fluoroscopically guided injections, electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG/NCS), exercise, therapy and rehabilitation to diagnose and relieve many orthopaedic problems without surgery.

A decorated major in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Lorch served his country as an aerospace medicine flight surgeon and physiatric consultant. Prior to his military service, he completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Ohio State University Hospital in 1995 and had the opportunity to train under of the true giants in the field, Ernie Johnson, MD. He completed a fellowship in spine and sports medicine at Buffalo Spine and Sports Medicine Institute.

Dr. Lorch graduated with honors from University of Notre Dame, and is board-certified by both the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and member of the North American Spine Society.

A former Eagle Scout, Dr. Lorch enjoys hiking, kayaking, skiing, running and spending time with his wife, Rachel, and their two dogs.

Joseph P. Zuhosky, M.D.

Dr. Zuhosky specializes in non-operative spine care, sports medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine. He is one of the few local physicians to have received board certification from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and is one of a handful of physiatrists locally selected to train other physicians in the performance of spinal procedures. He is currently chairman of the committee that oversees this training nationally.

A resident of Charlotte since 1998, Dr. Zuhosky completed a prestigious sports medicine and spine rehabilitation fellowship under Frank Lagattuta, MD, the renowned former physical medicine consultant to the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. During the internship and residency at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center, he received several awards for research and teaching and served as chief resident at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Dr. Zuhosky continues to be very active in conducting research, teaching, lecturing both locally and nationally and has several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles to his credit. He was recently selected to author several articles for continuing education for his specialty in acute musculoskeletal injuries.  He also serves on the Board of Governors for the national Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation (PASSOR). He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Board of Pain Medicine.

After graduating with honors from University of Notre Dame, Dr. Zuhosky attended medical school at Ohio State University, where he received the Department of Physical Medicine Award.

He resides in the Lake Norman area with his wife and sons.
